STRONG LEADERSHIP IS A SOFT POWER ASSET

Britain has long been one of the world’s leading soft power nations. Our universities educate future global leaders. Our businesses shape international markets. Our scientists, entrepreneurs, innovators, creatives and institutions continue to influence industries and societies around the world. Combined, these assets contribute significantly to Britain’s international reputation, attractiveness and global standing.

However, soft power cannot be taken for granted.

In a world characterised by increasing geopolitical competition, rapid technological change and intense competition for talent, investment and influence, nations must actively strengthen and promote the factors that contribute to their global reputation and relevance.

The British Leadership Council believes leadership is one of Britain’s greatest but often overlooked soft power assets.

Every successful entrepreneur, scientist, educator, innovator, business leader, public servant and changemaker contributes not only to the success of their organisation, but to the reputation and influence of Britain itself. Collectively, they shape how Britain is perceived around the world and help reinforce the country’s position as a centre of excellence, innovation, enterprise and opportunity.

Through its initiatives, the British Leadership Council will seek to strengthen Britain’s soft power by championing the people, organisations and sectors that enhance the country’s reputation and international influence. By celebrating achievement, showcasing excellence, promoting innovation and connecting leadership communities across the United Kingdom, the Council will help amplify the stories, ideas and successes that contribute to Britain’s standing on the world stage.

The Britain Leads campaign, British Leadership Summit, British Leadership Awards, British Leadership Power 100 and British Leadership Parliamentary Report will each play a role in promoting Britain’s leadership strengths both nationally and internationally. Together, they will help create greater visibility for British excellence, strengthen relationships between sectors, promote future leaders and contribute to a more confident and ambitious national narrative.

Ultimately, strong leadership is more than an economic asset. It is a soft power asset.

The nations that attract talent, investment, partnerships and influence are often those that successfully project confidence, competence, innovation and ambition. By championing the leaders and organisations helping shape Britain’s future, the British Leadership Council seeks to strengthen not only Britain’s leadership ecosystem, but Britain’s influence, reputation and place in the world.

Because in the twenty-first century, influence is one of a nation’s most valuable assets and leadership is one of the most powerful ways to build it./p>
